How To Remove One Operating System from a Dual Boot Windows XP Computer

In Windows Xp, you can install two operating systems on the same hard disk of one computer.

Whether you have two copies of Windows Xp, or two different operating systems, then you end up with dual boot machine when you restart your Windows Xp computer.

Dual boot means, the system will give you a choice of two operating system. For example, if you have two Windows Xp copies A ans B, the prompt will offer you to choose A or B to boot from.

Also, dual boot machine can be used to have Windows Xp, and Linux O.S. installed on the same computer.

In the case where you have two windows Xp copies on the same hard disk, you will experience a slow performance in your system.

If you need to delete one Windows Xp copies, and leave only one, here is how you do it:

When you restart your system, and you get a choice of two operating systems, you should choose the one you want to keep installed on your machine.

Once the startup process is done, and your computer is ready to accept tasks to perform certain functions, you click on the “My Computer” icon and locate the hard disks, removable storage devices, and more.

In the hard disk box you should see two drive icons, like “C”, “D”. If the copy you installed later need to be cancelled, it must reside on the “D” part of the hard disk.

This is because the “C” is where you initial copy of the Windows Xp resides, and it is the one you want to keep installed as the only copy on your computer.

The way you should get rid of the “D” copy is to format the “D” part of the hard disk. just right click it, and choose format. This will delete the Windows Xp copy you don’t need.

In summary, you can have two operating systems installed on your windows Xp machine, which will offer a choice of loading one of two operating systems.

The good thing is that you can cancel one, and leave the other, and your computer keeps running.

Traffic Exchange Primer

Traffic Exchange Primer

Traffic exchanges are everywhere. A traffic exchange is a clever way to get hundreds or thousands of visitors to your website. The concept is very simple and the exchange process is easy to put into action. First, you join a traffic exchange program that includes individuals with
websites to promote. Next, you set up the website you want to promote. Finally, you visit the websites of the other members and they visit your website in exchange.

There are both fr^ee and paid traffic exchanges. Some of the exchanges are good and some are not so good. They come in two basic flavors: manual surf and automatic surf. In the manual surf mode, you have to visit a website for a minimum period of time and then click on a button to visit the next website in the rotation. In the automatic surf mode, the websites are visited automatically for a specific period of time before the next website is displayed. The order of website visitation in both the manual and automatic mode is controlled by the traffic exchange webmaster.

A rotator or randomizer can be used to display the member websites one after another in either the automatic or manual surf mode. The rotator will display a different website in an order specified by the traffic exchange. In the auto surf mode, the rotator usually displays websites for a specific time period that usually ranges from 15 seconds to 60 seconds. The randomizer, on the other hand, will randomly select the website to be displayed. You earn credits as you view more and more websites.

A traffic exchange will expose your website to many Internet users on a worldwide basis. As a result, the exchange can possibly give your website a lot of hits. Visualize the traffic exchange in the same manner you would view a TV. The exchange provides you with websites to view similar to watching TV commercials.

The basic traffic exchange program works on the “credit” principle. You earn a full or partial “credit” every time you visit another member’s website. In turn, you lose a full credit whenever another member visits your website. The typical exchange allows you to earn from 0.5 to 1.0
credit for every visit you make to another member’s website.

You can usually obtain credits on the traffic exchange by:

* Viewing the websites of other members
* Referring other individuals to join the exchange
* Purchasing credits from the exchange’s webmaster.

If you purchase credits, you generally have a higher rate of conversion of credits earned and/or purchased versus credits used when you receive visits from other members. You have greater control over how you use your earned credits when you pay to receive credits. It is possible to get an display rate of your website that exceeds 1.0 for every 1.0 credits you earned or purchased.

As an example, in the basic fr^ee mode you might have to use 2.0 earned credits to display your website 1.0 times to other members. This is a 0.5 exchange rate. Depending on the traffic exchange and the number of credits purchased, you can increase the exchange rate up to about 2.0 displays of your website to other members for every hit you receive.

Some exchanges offer a sign-up bonus (fr^ee earned credits) to encourage you to join their traffic exchange. This enables you to start getting visitors to your website immediately.

You have the ability to enable or disable your own website for viewing by other members. If you enable your website, other members can view your site and thus consume your account
credits. If you disable your website, other members cannot view your website and you conserve your credits. This allows you to continue to surf the other member websites and build up your available credits for use at a different time.

The traffic exchanges specify whether or not you can have multiple websites for display. However, you can only display one website at a time if you are permitted to have multiple
websites. You can specify how many of your earned and/or purchased credits can be applied to each of your websites.

Most exchanges have a referral program where you can earn credits for the people that you refer to the traffic exchange program and their surfing activity. As a bonus, you may receive a certain percentage of their earned credits. Your downline levels may be unlimited or limited depending on the traffic exchange structure.

Most traffic exchanges earn money from the “purchase credits” feature they offer and from advertisements. In general, an exchange member can specify whether or not they want to see
popups, adult or erotic websites.

Most traffic exchanges have restrictions associated with your use of the exchange. For example, exchanges generally specify whether you can or cannot have: (1) popup windows, (2) message
boxes, (3) inappropriate content or adult material, (4) break out of frames, (5) site rotation, (6) URL or domain forwarding and (7) more than one account.

Furthermore, the traffic exchange may be able to delete your account if: (1) your account is inactive for a given period of time or (2) your website is causing problems for the exchange
system.

Some exchanges let their members sell their earned credits for cash back to the traffic exchange. The rate of conversion from earned credits to cash is controlled by the webmaster of the traffic exchange.

Your website design and the time it takes for the website to load are very critical when using a traffic exchange. Your webpage will never get viewed if your site takes 15 seconds to load and the exchange rotates the websites every 15 seconds. You want to have at least a 10-second viewing window to give the surfing exchange member time to respond to your webpage
presentation.

Keep your website clean of unnecessary clutter. You want your visitor to make a quick decision whether to ask for more information or pass on your offering.

Make your displayed website short and simple. Do not send your visitors to the sales page on your main website. Provide a killer headline followed by supporting bullets and ask for
their name and email address. Don’t make it complicated.

Put the lure on the fishing line and give your visitors a chance to say “yes” to your presentation. You need to get your message in front of your visitor quickly. Capture their name and e-mail address. You will have plenty of chances at a later time to market to your list.

Traffic exchanges can bring you a lot of traffic. It will take some work but the increase in your own opt–in list will provide constant inspiration. You should consider the benefits gained from traffic exchanges if you have the time and proper motivation.

Apple’s New IMAC Is Thinnest Yet

Losing weight has become a national obsession. Thin is in and it’s not just with the human form. Some of the most desirable technology products of today are thin and the thinner the better. New digital cameras are thin enough to slip into a shirt pocket. Portable mp3 players and even the latest stereo components are losing weight. And let’s not forget those wonderful flat plasma TV sets that hang on a wall, and who doesn’t want a flat panel computer screen on their computer these days? Unless the computer IS the flat screen. Well that’s exactly what Apple has done to its newest generation of iMac computer.

Looking at the new iMacs is like looking at a computer monitor without the computer. Apple has managed to cram the entire computer into a beautifully sculpted display that comes in a wide-screen format. In fact, the new iMac’s form looks pretty much like Apple’s recently introduced line of 20, 23 and 30 inch screens. The brushed aluminum base allows the screen to seemingly float above the desk. A touch of the finger lets you pivot the screen to an ideal viewing angle. The base is also part of the iMac’s cable management system that guides all of the cables that plug into a vertical array of five USB ports (three USB 2.0), two FireWire 400 ports, a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet and a 56K V.92 modem port on the left side of the reversed screen.

Malware And Antivirus Software

Warning: most antivirus programs will not protect you against all forms of malignant software (often called “malware”) on their own. Find out how to protect yourself.

Sure, your antivirus software will protect you against viruses. It will probably even do a good job against worms. But what Trojans, exploits, backdoors, spyware and the dozen other nasty software parasites?

Malware and Antivirus Software: a History

The war on computer viruses has led to an arms race between the designers of antivirus software and the designers of viruses (you didn’t think viruses just created themselves did you?). Some years ago, virus designers responded to ever more successful antivirus software by creating the descendents of viruses, worms, which did not infect files but rather installed themselves directly on the hard drive, making them harder to detect.

The arms race has since led to a total of at least eleven distinct types of what is now called malware, a neologism meaning bad (as in malignant rather than shoddy) software. According to Wikipedia, these eleven types of malware are:

1. Virus
2. Worm
3. Wabbit
4. Trojan
5. Backdoor
6. Spyware
7. Exploit
8. Rootkit
9. Key Logger
10. Dialer
11. URL injection

There’s a twelfth kind of malware: adware, which Wikipedia considers simply to be a subset of spyware.

Why Antivirus Software Isn’t Enough for Malware

As you can see, makers of antivirus software have their work cut out for them if they’re going to keep every instance of malware off your system. As a result, antivirus software makers have often had to pick their battles. Adware, whose makers often claim they are doing nothing illegal or even questionable, often gets treated more lightly.

Even when antivirus software makers do come out with a product that fights all twelve or so kinds of malware, responding to each new instance of malware to come on the market isn’t easy. First the malware has to be identified, which means someone’s computer, and probably tens of thousands of computers, will be infected first. Then, the malware has to be dissected. Then a removal program and a filter must both be written. Then the removal program and filter must be tested to make sure they work, and that they don’t interfere with any other functions of the antivirus software or the computer itself. When a fix for the virus is out, it then has to be loaded into an antivirus software update and transmitted to every single computer worldwide that has the antivirus software installed.

The speed with which antivirus software makers are able to deliver updates for newly discovered malware would impress even Santa Claus. Yet there’s still a crucial window of one to a few days between when the new malware has reached a critical mass of thousands of computers, and when the update is released. If your antivirus software is not set to check for updates automatically every hour or so, that window opens even wider.

Practically speaking, then, you’re better off having more than one line of defense against malware. Even if two different anti-malware programs utilize the exact same database, there might be a crucial difference in the speed of getting updates. It makes sense to back up your antivirus software with anti-spyware software. When you consider that dedicated anti-spyware software developers make protection against the non-virus forms of malware their stock-in-trade, you can see why anti-spyware software is so essential. In fact, you should strongly consider having two anti-spyware programs running on your computer at all times, since the gap in updates between two anti-spyware programs can be even longer than for two antivirus programs.

After all, with a dozen kinds of malware out there, shouldn’t you at least have two pieces of software to fight them?

Pisa – The city of the Leaning Tower

Although it is world wide famous due to its Leaning Tower, the city of Pisa also has many other great attractions and amazing characteristics to offer.

Pisa is one of the most important historic Italian areas and one of the most visited year around as well. This city allows tourists to meet buildings which conjugate many different époques and artistic currents, such as, for example, Romanesque and Gothic among many others.

Pisa is located towards the western area of Tuscany, and its origins date from as long as 3.000 years ago. During that time, a settlement started being built up at the seaside and gave origin to what today is one of the most famous cities of the world. This way, the historical richness of Pisa is amazing due to its great amount of years and this can be observed in the buildings which have remained through the pass of time and which show the different époques through which the city has passed.

Another one of Pisa’s main characteristics is its university, established in the first years of 1340 and world wide known due to its excellence. This way, Pisa is a city which gives main importance to knowledge, science and arts, being up to the date with modern life as well as maintaining some of the characteristics which gave it shape through the pass of time.

The Leaning Tower is located in the northwest area of Pisa, sharing one same area with other important buildings. At this area, known as Campo dei Miracoli, next to the famous Leaning Tower, there are other three great and unique buildings: the Camposanto or Holy Field; the amazing Duomo or Cathedral of Pisa of 1000 years; and the Baptistery or Battisterio of circular shape.

There are several other buildings and interesting areas for visitors to meet in Pisa besides the Campo dei Miracoli. Towards the south side of the city, tourists can visit two interesting museums: the Museo delle Sinopie and the Museo dell’Opera, offering the chance to observe original paintings and sculptures of famous artists from many centuries ago.

Is Biomass Really a Clean Energy Resource?

As we strive to find alternative energy resources, many potential solutions are on the table. Biomass energy is one such solution or is it?

Biomass energy is unique in that it has existed in primitive forms since the early days of mankind. Burning wood in a cave is a form of biomass energy, which is simply the conversion of an organic material in a manner that produces heat. For example, a fire converts the organic wood into heat. Therein, however, lays the problem.

Global warming is a much debated issue with everyone having a strong opinion and no one seemingly willing to listen to the other side. Whatever your view on this subject, what is clear is we are producing an absolute ton of carbon-based gases in our modern civilization. This is a key issue since the amount of carbon in the atmosphere is a key factor in climate regulation on our planet.

To understand the problems of biomass as an energy form, one has to understand the biomass cycle that occurs on the planet. Simplified, the biomass cycle regulates the amount of carbon in our atmosphere. The biomass, primarily in the form of plants, uses carbon to grow and the biosphere effectively acts as a sponge for carbon. This sponge effect, however, has limits. As with a sponge in your kitchen, the biomass can only suck up so much carbon at one time. When there is too much carbon in the atmosphere or we shrink our “sponge” with deforestation and such, we run the risk of overwhelming the atmosphere with carbon gases. If our atmosphere has excessive carbon, heat is trapped and all hell begins to break loose. From a practical standpoint, this means our relatively mild climate on Earth will start becoming more chaotic. After the most recent hurricane season, that definitely is not a good thing.

Taking the biomass cycle into consideration, the negatives of all biomass energy production are that they create more carbon gases. A caveman sitting next to a fire in a cave is using biomass energy to produce heat, but the black smoke is a very nasty carbon pollutant. In modern terms, biomass energy doesn’t really resolve the amount of carbon we are putting into the atmosphere. Yet, there is an argument on the other side of the biomass coin.

Proponents of biomass argue it is a better energy source than fossil fuels. The basis of this argument is that plants [biomass] have taken in much smaller amounts of carbon gases over a shorter period of time than fossil fuels. Thus, burning them is a carbon neutral situation. The problem, of course, is that even if this concept is correct, we are not cutting down our carbon emissions. At this point in time, we need to be reducing carbon gasses, not maintaining our current output.

It is undisputable biomass has its problems. It is a better alternative than fossil fuels, but how much so?

Life on Mars, Warm Water Under our Ice Caps, Evidence, Microbes under Our Feet

Well many people out there are asking is there really life on Mars? Our Thinking Group has been asking not if, what type?

An article I remember reading and article in Astronomy Magazine back in 1996 that read was there life on Mars and it was an article about a meteorite that landed here on Earth and it was found in 1984 in Antarctica in the Allen Hills ice fields, like I even know where that is? It had bacteria fossils and remains of bacteria that lived about 3.6 billion years ago and the meteor appeared to have come from Mars.

Today the surface of Mars is colder than the Siberian Winter and dryer than Gobi Desert. Yet we both know that things on earth live in both places as a matter of fact an article from Scientific American reported that there are microbes that live in radiation infested rock at 200 plus degrees 2000 feet underground. We have found microbes that eat radiation and live in sulfuric gas and lava flows. See the scientific paper in Discover magazine 1999, “To Hell and Back”. So how can anyone deny that there is life on Mars and there was also life 3.6 Billion years ago? And heck that is just the nearest planet. There is life all over this galaxy and all the others too. Does this offend people?

Does it go against our Christian belief system? It shouldn’t really. It can co-exist with the Christian Religion, read the book a Case for Faith, I am currently reading this book and it goes into the existence of many passages that can explain any perceived contradiction. You do not have to be Thomas Paine to believe both. Although there are only about 7% of the top scientists in this country who believe in god, they believe with all their passion and they have been able to co-exist with the other scientists who are primarily agnostic although some say at least 41% that they are absolutely atheists. We have life in more extreme conditions below our Earth’s surface than above Mar’s surface so it stands to reason that there is not only life but an eco-system as well. A natural order to things so to speak where life fills minute niches and life feeds on other life forms. It has been known since 1990 that Mars’s poles contained frozen water, today about 300,000 square miles of ice. So there is water on Mars. So if there is water then there is life of some form there.

Let’s remember that some of these microbes found on the meteor may have sparked life here too. In other words we may have among us Martian life living on Earth today and vice versa. In a scientific report in 1997 Discover magazine there was an article about a lake underneath the Antarctica ice. 5000 square miles and 1600 feet deep. The geothermal heat has melted the ice underneath and made a lake in a closed system, and there maybe species which have been living their for 2 million years. These microbes and species will be different that anything we have ever seen, that is for sure. So let us think for a minute, we have species living in hot water shielded by ice for 2 million years we did not even know existed here, until we found them by seismic and beaming radio waves, and some tell us there is no life on Mars, BS.

There is life and it is probably below and above the surface living under the dirt and under the ice sheet. Just like it is here. Just think about it on the nearest planet in our own solar system there is life, and some people use to think that Earth was so unique that there was only life here? That is absolutely global-centric as humans of us to even think there. We are learning every day about our own Planet and those things are helping us learn more about other planets. We have just sent up satellites to use microwaves of K and Ka bands to measure gravity of various regions and determine the mass distribution of Earth. We can use these and other techniques to locate areas on other planets that may be hollow or less dense that could be water and or other material which can support life. As the famous line in Jurassic Park said “life will find a way.” In other words if there is a niche it will be filled by some life form. There is lif on Mars and there is lots of species living here that we have not met yet, some living amongst us we have not discovered, some living under the ice, some living under the earth, there are some we may create in the future and there are different species living on other planets within this solar system and some life on the moons of some of these planets right now, in the past and for sure in the future as we colonize other planets in the next 1000 years.

Get use to it, stop denying it and get with the program, there is life on Mars and there has been for longer than modern man has walked the surface of this planet.

And to that point we are finding gases which normally are caused by organic life flowing from the surface, probably underground, we have life living underground here, intelligent life too, so why wouldn’t we have life underground on Mars where the water is and at the Poles where the water is?

If you enjoy these topics and wish to post your own information, theories, science, observations, proof here, do it, we would love to hear it.

And perhaps you wish to join one of our thinking groups or start your own think tank in your area as a Chapter?
