Diabetes Meal Planning

Planning meals for a household that includes a diabetic does not have to be a chore. The key to making everybody happy is to choose foods that are full of flavor and do not have a lot of sugar.

The first step to meal planning is to find out what each member of the household likes. Now, you have to try to find recipes that are suitable for diabetics. In the past, many of these recipes were associated with flavorless foods. That is not the case anymore.

Now, diabetic foods are full of flavor and are healthy for every member of the family.

Small changes are one way to make diabetes meal planning easier. For example, substitute no sugar added applesauce for apple pie, replace regular pasta with whole-wheat pasta.

Portion sizes are another part of a diabetic meal plan that take some getting used to. Instead of eating a whole box of cookies, each family member should eat only one serving size. To find this information out, you must read the nutrition information on the package.

Marinating meats is a simple way to add flavor. Use fresh herbs and vegetables to add flavor without adding sugar. For instance, marinate cubes of steak in cup vinegar, canola oil, 3 tablespoons water, 1 chopped onion, 4 cloves of garlic (chopped) and seasoning of your choice. Place the steak on a skewer with fresh vegetables of your choice and cook them on the barbecue grill.

In time, no one in the household will notice that the meals are, in fact, cooked for a diabetic.

Empower Web clients, Increase your profits

Static Websites, Static Content

In the early days of websites and webdesign, if (when) there was a need to change, add or modify published information on a clients website we’d get a call (or email) from the client with a markup of proposed changes. Simple stream of workflow, Client to us, us to web.

Dynamic Websites, Fluid Content

The days of static HTML pages has pretty much passed, and that’s a good thing. Today, there’s a much greater amount of, and need for “fluid content” on the web… Targeted “fresh” information is today’s asset, and web-enabled business needs the abilty to keep that content current and relevant. Here’s where content management comes in…

Real-World Business uses Content Management

The working model for just about any conventional business with more than one employee already uses a content management structure in real-world, day to day business.

As an example (unless you are a sole proprietor), when your company sells a product or gets an order;

* You get a paper trail upstream from sales * Revisions and approvals are made by you (or lower management) and are passed back downstream to sales and accounting.

Your employees don’t physically move walls, change or add doorways or build new additions to the building, they work only with assets, not the physical structure of your business. Employees + Inventory = Yes Employees + Building = No

Same Story, Different Media

Online Content Management works along similar veins by assigning administrative priorities and permissions to all content data available on your website. This structure enables anyone with permission to access, modify and add content to your website within administration guidelines without the need to change global website structure. Content can be anything you currently publish or would like to publish on your website; inventory (catalog/e-store), articles and business information are all considered content assets.

Separation of Church and State

The real strength behind most content management applications isn’t the ease of content manipulation but rather, the complete separation of the “content” layer from the “application” layer. In the old days, when we developed a static website, content and interface were assembled together, page by page. Client content (articles, pictures and business information) were designed around navigation menus and the internal structure of the website, therefore, each time we were asked to make a substantial change to the clients content, someone here had to go under the client’s hood and change or modify the application layer to reflect the new additions. On some the large sites, changing or adding a menu item or new content section required hand-coding hundreds of pages and took days, sometimes weeks.

Billable yes, cost efficient to client, no… From a design shop standpoint, static content maintenance was not even marginally profitable.

That’s where a good content management tool comes in.

By separating all client content from the application layer of the clients website, we now have the ability to make global changes to our clients website in seconds instead of hours or days.

Just Add Water and Stir

There are dozens of exceptional content management applications available on the market today that range from simple Online Journal Tools (Blog Software) to enterprise-capable CRMS (Content Resource Management Software). Most of the popular applications are internet enabled which means the application software needs to be installed on a dedicated intranet or web-server. Once installed, maintenance and editorial changes can be made directly from a secure administration section on your website with no special software needed. Just open up your favorite web-browser on any computer connected to the internet, log in and away you go.

More accurate inkjet prints

Chances are, you probably have one of those inkjet printers catering to all your photo printing needs at home. If not, you would probably want to have your print job done using the same kind of printer.

Like all other types of printer, there are printing tips you need to keep in mind to make the most out of inkjet printers. What are these?

Tip number 1: Everything starts with a good scan.

Your print will only be as good as your original scan allows. Most modern inkjet printers have the capability of producing 256 steps of density in each of its color channels when a professional ink set and matched printer profile is employed.

Check not only resolution but also dynamic range of a scanner or digital camera by comparing print output. This is particularly noticeable when scanning for monochrome printing. Scan in RGB, even when scanning for mono.

Always scan in RGB. Always print in RGB. Your inkjet printer driver does not process CMYK or Grayscale mode as efficiently.

Adjust your print to portrait format before going to print. The fewer tasks you ask the print driver to perform, the faster your print will be.

Tip number 2: Try to use mini test prints.

Know that Image editing software is a very efficient way to ruin good images.

One of the most common digital printing errors is to over-adjust your image because you may only notice a change in appearance on your monitor after a fairly course adjustment.

Oftentimes, extremely subtle adjustments are all that is required to optimize your printed image. Remember that your printer is very sensitive to small changes, whereas your monitor may only show larger adjustments due to the more ‘’sluggish” nature of the color phosphors in some monitors.

A great way to accurately gauge the print output change to a small adjustment is to produce miniature test prints.

Reduce the size of your print file to A6 size without re-sampling. Make a note of the original image resolution. Print a mini test print of the raw scan as test print number one. Carry out subtle changes as required, each time checking the result with another mini test print. Inspect your test prints at a few inches distance.

When you are happy with your final test print, go back to your original print size by entering the original ppi resolution. Your will find that the finished print is a close match if held at arm’s length, compared to your test print viewed close up.

This method is very economical on ink, paper and time, allowing you to enhance an image with far greater accuracy than relying on the monitor alone.

Order Takers vs. Sales Professionals

As business owners we all know that in a ideal world prospects would just pick up the phone and give us an order – but for most of us sales is not like that! Yes it would be utopia however have you considered the difference between order takers and sales professionals? Firstly they are two completely different animals. Lets face facts order takers are less likely to be skilled in sales technique. This includes the ability to easily up sell, cross sell or add on services. Order takers are by there very nature just waiting for the phone to ring and do not work on a pro active basis. If we left everything to the client then so many additional products would never have been sold.

Before I am told that they probably were sold something that they didn’t want, lets examine the motivation for buying. If you were looking at purchasing software to run on a Windows based platform maybe it would be important to ensure that it worked with every release or version of the software. Some companies still have Windows 98 and have not (for whatever reason) upgraded to XP. If this particular prospect came through and presented the company with an order and found out later that the software was incompatible with Windows XP it is my belief that they would have expected the seller to let them know prior to purchase. The same could be said for printers. Imagine an real estate agency that wanted to print thousands of property particulars. If they bought a bottom of the range ink jet printer as opposed to a colour laser they would possibly be feeling cheated when the printer just didn’t meet expectations.

Salespeople are taught (or should be) to manage expectations and recommend appropriate products and services. Money is tight for everyone (I think it always has been) and I believe that nobody is tricked into buying something that they don’t want by some smooth talking sales person. Unfortunately apart form the very basic advice that may be given at the point of purchase most order takers won’t even recognise an opportunity. That could be an expensive mistake if you were considering the value that the prospect brings over the buying cycle. For many companies this is measured in years. A bookstore can attract buyers whose buying pattern is measured in years (say 5 years at 12 purchases per year). A trained salesperson will recognise this and ensure that they are helped with the current order and try to anticipate future buying habits. Some of the big companies on the internet have employed this – when you order a book another window may popup suggesting other books to purchase thus increasing the order value at the point of purchase.

Lastly remember this, order takers shine when the market is buoyant in a declining market sales people have built solid relationships that they leverage and still make or exceed targets – the choice is yours.

The Science of Science!

What is Science!?

First of all, Science! is not the same as science. Science! is the study and knowledge of all things scientific, quasiscientific, or pseudoscientific. Anything that is obscure, incoherent, or improbable is made clear by the purveyor of Science! (also known as the Scientist!). The Scientist! has access to knowledge that even scientists do not have access to. They are truly the masters of all that is True and Scientific!

There are 3 characteristics of the practitioner of Science!

  1. They always work alone. Scientists usually have teams of other scientists and technicians working with them. The Scientist!, on the other hand, works alone, in their own, small, often home-built, laboratory. The laboratory will be filled with various whirring, clicking, blinking, or bubbling pieces of lab equipment which appear to have no purpose since the Scientist! never touches them.
  2. They work fast. In real science, scientists develop theories, test their theories, and then modify or abandon the theories as the evidence evolves. The process often takes years, if not a lifetime. In Science! the Scientist! gets his or her answer in a matter of days (or hours, or weeks, or minutes, depending on what timeframe is most dramatic). Usually, the Scientist! gets a bright idea, runs to the lab to test the theory, and then comes back with an unexpected, but clearly genius, answer to the mystery/problem/question in record time.
  3. They are always right. Everyone else is always wrong. In real science, peer review is a critical part of the scientific process. In Science! peer review is not only unessecary, but is detrimental. Mainstream scientists never accept what the Scientist! has to say until events prove them to be soundly (and often, fatally) wrong.

Television, movies, and literature are full of practitioners of Science! One of the best example is the Professor in the TV Series “Gilligan’s Isle.” Does anyone know what he was a professor of? That’s right! He was a Professor of Science! The professor understood everything from primative cultures, to weather phenomena, to electromechanics, to astronomy. A master of Science!, he could do almost anything (except patch a hole in a boat).

Science! has evolved over time. In the 50’s and 60’s, the Scientist! was a non-specialist (and usually male). Science! gave him mastery over every possible field of study (much like the professor in “Gilligan’s Isle”). In modern times, the Scientist! is more likely to be a specialist, to acknowledge that, in the real world, most scientists are specialists. What they get wrong, however, undermines the one thing they tried to get right. For example, in the TV show Stargate SG-1. The character of Sam Carter is a Scientist! specializing in physics, while Daniel Jackson is a Scientist! specializing in archaeology. They both (especially Sam) have the attributes of the Scientist!, however. 1) They work alone, 2) they solve the mysteries of the universe in a few hours or days, and 3) most of the other scientists (when they show up with a theory) are wrong.

Another example of a modern Scientist! is the protagonist, Robert Langdon, in The DaVinci Code. Although Langdon deviates slightly from the typical Scientist! (the typical Scientist! is alone in his beliefs, but Langdon actually has the support of many of his peers), in other ways he is the same. He manages to solve the great mystery in the course of an evening, and there is never, at any time, a question that he may actually be WRONG in his beliefs.

And so, this is Science!. It is a product of movies, television, and literature, and it is real, in the sense that perception is reality. People think that all real science is done by lone geniuses who try to buck the system that keeps them down. If you ask most people, they will probably say that we would have flying cars and robots by now if it weren’t for the scientific community hobbling the handful of geniuses in their midst. It is this mindset that has led to the proliferation of pseudoscience, and theories such as Intelligent Design. The best defense against the growing misconception of what science is and what scientists do, is education. We need to teach our children, and our adults, that Hollywood is Hollywood, and that a Hollywood Scientist! has as much basis in reality as a Hollywood action hero.

Offshore Gaming Keeps Bettors at the PC

Hordes of betting fans will have encountered the expression “offshore sports betting” recently, though some might not be wholly clear on what that refers to. A foreign gaming internet site essentially works outside of the scope of a distinct state or else it can mean a world wide web based gaming website that locates their servers inside a land in which online wagering is not presently forbidden. To summarize therefore, it’s a gambling establishment that operates outside the area of the gamer. Machine-accessible sports wagering web sites are currently governed via three organisations. They are the OSGA (the Offshore Gaming Association), the IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and finally the Fidelity Trust Gaming Association FTGA.

bet store football sky sports

The OSGA are a self regulating agency that regulates the modern offshore betting industry, they endeavor to give the paying public the capability to swiftly locate reputable internet businesses to play games with. It endeavors to support customer’s rights, and also they do not impose any society charges. The association are a professional and neutral third party agency which asserts neutral info, founded around customer feedback, unprejudiced examination, telephone chats, inside advice and in addition offers inside communication.

The Interactive Gaming Council is a non commercially motivated organization. The agency was established to provide a forum for involved individuals to talk about controversies and in addition to boost communal interests in the worldwide online gaming trade, in an effort to establish frank and stable commercial standards and procedures that improve consumer confidence in online betting commodities and functions, and also to help as the betting trade’s general procedure advocate and it also provides a data clearinghouse.

The Interactive Gaming Council have worked up a name for safety, ethical conduct and also credibility through the exacting industry ethics it stands for, and in addition its appeal for sincere gaming internet sites. The Interactive Gaming Council regularises offshore sports betting by recommending an original ten-point code of conduct and in addition bills betting business concerns a payment to show the council’s logo. Disenchanted betters can, if they like, report any of their challenges to the Interactive Gaming Council.

The FTGA was set up in an attempt to construct a benchmark to improve the procedures of machine-accessible sports betting operations. The authority hope that conducting business with credible businesses, they are able to set up a union of the fairest and professional internet betting operations worldwide. There are bodies who inspect the conduct of internet sports betting and which should with time help to ease most if not all of the misgivings felt by doubters. Internet sports betting sites are at present completely harmless, now that personal data aren’t necessary and also the payments not to mention the betting odds are equivalent to a common Vegas-type stake. They eradicate traveling time, but keep of a conventional gambling casino, only today you can wager in your own home.

Article Writing Myths: Just a Few Articles Will Do the Trick

Myth – If I write just a few articles that will be enough to meet my needs for marketing my business and creating prospects.

Reality – Are you one of the people that believe you can write just a few articles and that will take care of everything?

So many beginning writers get caught in this trap. They labor and write a few articles, post them to an article directory, and then sit back and wait for the prospects and profits to roll in.

Of course this does not happen and then they give up on article writing and marketing, believing that articles do not work for building your practice.

Writing articles works, most people don’t work it

The reality comes in two parts:

Part 1 is that article writing and article marketing does work, and works really well when done right.

Part 2 is about doing it right. Some people are just not willing to put in the time and the work to build it right.

Hitting critical mass

When I first began posting articles, a few articles brought a tiny trickle of prospects. When I hit 25 the trickle got bigger. By the time I hit 250, a good critical mass, the trickle turned into a nice stream.

Now at 705 articles, if this one is accepted, I get a flood of propects everyday, to the point where I could not stop them from coming in if I wanted to, and I surely do not.
