New York-based investment banker Carlos Abadi, head of Abadi & Co., donated several World War II artifacts to Duke University, significant to research related to the Holocaust. Abadi’s family, particularly his parents, Moussa and Odette Abadi, were among the notable heroes during the era who helped children escape from the Nazi concentration camps, risking their lives in the process. The donated artifacts are pieces of Abadi’s activist lineage and will be utilized in a lecture featured at the New York University’s La Maison Franaise, which will showcase lectures, film, and exhibits. The events will run for the entire month of April.
Starting April 2, New York University is showcasing several special events, one of which highlights the contributions of the Abadis in aiding victims of the Holocaust. The Abadi family’s artifacts will be used for the lecture to be held on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. The lecture, entitled “The Passion of Moussa Abadi: Medieval Theater, Hiding Jewish Children, Paris 1933-Nice 1943″ is to be presented by Helen Solterer of Duke University. Carlos Abadi, apart from being President of Abadi & Co., a private investment bank, is member of the board for RGE. He has an extensive 20-year expertise in emerging market governments, banks, and private sector companies.

Shruti Kurian, one of India’s top shuttlers shared feelings on her fitness and shape on playing badminton as she prepares for the games with partner, fellow India native Aparna Balan for the championships in Hyberabad this coming August. She feels that it is her fitness as a shuttler and user of the Yonex badminton racket that needs to be worked on and not the partnership she has with Balan.
On Sunday, she shared to the Telgraph from Melbourne that, “Ours is a new combination, we are getting well, but right now I think we are not fit enough to take on the best players.”
The tandem Kurain and Balan were able to reach their second final after Kurian split ways with former shuttler, partner and India native, Jwala Gutta. The first time they reached the finals was in the Grand Prix level months ago in the Australian Open.
During the Spanish Open held last May, the Indian shuttlers’ tandem fell last. They faltered against favourites Chia Chi Huang and He Tian Tang 13-21, 9-21.
Undeterred by the loss, Kurian is even more determined to shape and fit herself for the coming World Badminton Championship in Hyberabad, India.
Kurian says, “This is the fourth tournament together for us. In the Sudirman Cup we won three out of four matches. We are settling down. We have started playing well at this level, now we have to step up to the next level.”
With fitness and health in top shape, Kurian hopes to do well in the Hyberabad championships with partner Balan. She is especially training and toning her body’s fitness in preparation of the games so as she could contribute much to the intense matches they will be having. Both team members are working hard for the incoming championships.
