Mary J. Blige’s Gucci Charity Watch

Trends in the watch industry are often used to track how well the economy is doing. Knowing that scenario makes it pretty obvious that one of the most popular trends in watches right now is the black on black watch. You can’t seem to get away from it. Gucci is even partnering with Mary J Blige to a black watch. “The two huge names teamed up for the launch of the limited-edition black PVD twirl watch which will be sold to benefit Mary J’s foundation: The Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now, or FFAWN.”

Most people are now loving the black on black watch. Wearing a black watch some years ago might have given people the impression that you were in the military or just trying to be James Bond. Slowly acceptance of all black watches has come around and they have started to filter into the mainstream of fashion.

Stainless steel or titanium is pretty much the norm for these all black watches. Most of the bodies of the watches are coated in PVD or Physical Vapor Deposition. PVD was used first in the metals industry, being founded in the 1960’s this technology has been around for a long time. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Paneri PAM 004 are now considered pioneers in the all black watch space and are also known as collector’s items.
